A favourite project has been developing web and game content with Sumdog Ltd. Sumdog are based in Edinburgh and focus on educational web games for kids. Edinburgh Logo Design helped work on their brand and continue to design interactive design elements and other visual content such as static and short animated 2D graphics. The City of Edinburgh Council has adopted their platform for schools, as have schools further afield and our work is now enjoyed by millions of children in the UK and beyond.
The initial logo to kick-start Sumdog's brand had to be vibrant, a little bit edgy and aimed squarely at the intended audience- kids! Being able to utilise the logo in 1 colour, although always important in logo-design, was pushed a little down the priority list as Sumdog wanted something multicoloured and knew that the logo would be used and seen 99% of the time, online.
A graffiti-style logo was devised and was carefully crafted to make sure it was still legible for all ages, even with overlapping letters and added stylistic embellishments.
Hot oranges through to yellows play a big part in the colour scheme of the brand and were carried through to the mascot character of Sumdog himself who can be seen on the right.
Lastly, inkeeping with the street-style, a thick black outline surrounds the logotype to give a feeling of depth and solidity. It also means that the logo can function in 1 colour on the odd occasion that this is required. Mathelicious!
